In America, the most commonly known weight loss programs are such house hold names as Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, eDiets and Nutrisystem.

When considering getting help to loose weight, it is important to research the right program for you.

Some programs such as Weight Watchers suggest that you visit one of their centers for regular meetings, while others such as Nutrisystem work with those who are more comfortable going it alone. Some will promose promise a fast weight loss while other focus on setting a realistic weight loss goals.

Use your best judgment when choosing a weight loss progrom for you. Here are a few tips to help you decide:

  • How much weight do you want or need to lose? Setting realistic goals is one of the most important decisions you will make. You will stay better motivated. It’s better to shoot for a pound a week rather than 30 pound in one month. Studies show that rapid weight loss is at best temporary. To loose wieght and to keep it off is a life-long habit.
  • How much support do you need to stick with a diet. Some people will need plenty of support while others will prefer to stay displined on thier own. Support comes in the form of personalized counseling, local classes and metting, online chat, email response, books, guidelines, and others.  Understand how much personal touch you truly need to succeed.
  • Find the total cost of the program? Are there extra charges on top of initiation fees. Does the total cost include food? Research the programs, and then ask your money questions up front before you lay down your credit card.
  • Does the plan consider your lifestyle before making a diet plan for you? A plan taylored to you is ideal. You are more likely to feel as though you can succeed if the the plan is personalized to your likes and dislikes
  • Find out what the maintenance program is, what it costs, how long it lasts, and what you must do. Remember that the longer the program focuses on helping you change your eating and exercise patterns, the greater the chances of long-term success.
  • What is the refund policy? If you are not happy, you ensure that you have the right to a refund, and what that refund is.
